Biomethane in the gas network: Redexis injects up to 1,500 Nm³/h in Zaragoza

The resolution is dated September 1, 2026 and was published in the BOE on September 18, 2026.

The biomethane to be injected comes from the production plant of GIA EnR V SLU. The authorized infrastructure is technically simple but strategically relevant: a 4-inch piping system 16 meters in length with a sectioning valve that allows renewable gas to be discharged directly into the high-pressure network.

The resolution grants two simultaneous authorizations to Redexis Infraestructuras, SL:

• Approval of the execution project of the installations described in the "Project for a new position on the Zaragoza-Calatayud gas pipeline for biomethane injection in La Almunia de Doña Godina (Zaragoza)".

The file passed the public information process without objections, has a favorable report from the CNMC and from the Industry and Energy Area of Zaragoza, and did not require environmental impact assessment. The administrative process, therefore, was completed without significant obstacles.

For Redexis Infraestructuras, SL, this authorization represents the definitive enablement to operate a new gas infrastructure asset oriented toward renewable gas. The connection allows monetizing the biomethane produced by GIA EnR V SLU by introducing it directly into the primary transport network, with access to the national gas market.

• For Redexis: new network asset that expands its position in renewable gas infrastructure in Aragón.

GIA EnR V SLU operates a biomethane production plant in La Almunia de Doña Godina. Until the approval of this resolution, the biomethane produced could not be injected directly into the primary transport network due to lack of the authorized connection point.

With the infrastructure now approved, the plant can inject up to 1,500 Nm³/h of biomethane at 80 bar into the Zaragoza-Calatayud gas pipeline. If the plant operates at full capacity for 8,000 hours per year (standard reference for biomethane installations), the annual injected volume would reach 12,000,000 Nm³/year of renewable gas introduced into the national transport network, directly contributing to the renewable gas blending objectives established in Spanish energy regulations.

The physical connection is made through a 4-inch piping system just 16 meters long, with a sectioning valve that allows rapid shutdown in case of operational need or maintenance, complying with the safety requirements demanded by the CNMC.
