5G Grants for Rural Areas Without Coverage: What Operators Can Achieve in 2026

The operator can apply to the "5G Very Rural Networks" call requesting financing for:

• Upgrading an already existing telecommunications tower in the area with active 5G equipment.
• Building a new site in a municipality where there is no previous infrastructure.

If the area belongs to a territory with access to the Pluriregional Program Spain FEDER 2021-2027, the grant will be channeled through that route. If it does not have access to this program, the operator can still opt for complementary state funds provided for in the same Order. Additionally, the operator can coordinate with the corresponding Regional Government or municipality to expedite permits and potentially access additional co-financing.

3. Evaluate the most appropriate aid modality: decide between direct subsidy or FEDER reimbursable advance based on liquidity situation and conditions of each project.
4. Contact Regional Governments and local entities: explore collaboration possibilities to facilitate permits, land access and potential additional co-financing.
5. Prepare technical and economic documentation: size the project (upgrading existing tower vs. new site) and prepare technical justification for the application.
