USAL Professor Positions 2026: requirements and deadline for associate professors

Associate Professors of University with permanent appointment at USAL who have accreditation for Professor have a reduced time window to request their promotion. The process is exclusive to internal candidates: professors from other universities or other teaching positions cannot participate. Each position follows an independent procedure, unless two or more share an identical profile.

What does this regulation establish?

The resolution calls for a competitive examination for access to University Professor positions at USAL through the internal promotion system. This means that the process is closed to external candidates: only those who are already career civil servants in the Associate Professor position with permanent appointment at the University of Salamanca itself can participate.

The cumulative requirements to be able to participate are as follows:

• Be a career civil servant in the position of Associate Professor of University.
• Have permanent appointment at USAL at the time of the call.
• Have accreditation for the University Professor position, obtained through ANECA or equivalent regional agency.
• Prove a minimum of two years of seniority in the position.

Regarding the procedure, each announced position follows its own independent process. The only exception is that two or more positions share an identical profile, in which case they are processed jointly. The process is subject to the incompatibility regulations for personnel in the service of public administrations and the principle of gender equality.

For foreign applicants who do not have a NIE, the resolution provides for the possibility of registering in the RUS USAL (User Registry of the USAL electronic headquarters) to be able to access the application process.

Economic and operational impact

Promotion to the University Professor position means a direct salary improvement for the civil servant, as they move to a higher-ranking teaching position within the Spanish public university structure. • Procedure by position: each position has its own file, which means that a candidate applying for several positions must submit an application for each one, unless they share an identical profile.
• Incompatibility regulations: the process is subject to incompatibility regulations for public personnel, which may affect those with complementary private activities.

Who does it affect?

• Associate Professors of University who are career civil servants with permanent appointment at the University of Salamanca.
• Associate Professors who have obtained accreditation for Professor and have been in their current position for at least two years.
• Foreign applicants without NIE linked to USAL who need to register in the RUS USAL to participate.
• Departments and areas of knowledge at USAL whose positions have been included in this call.

It does not affect professors from other universities, contracted professors (associates, teaching assistants, contracted doctors), or civil servants from other teaching positions different from Associate Professors of University.

Practical example

An Associate Professor of University from the Department of Administrative Law at USAL, who obtained permanent appointment in September 2023 and received ANECA accreditation for Professor in January 2025, meets all the requirements to participate in this call:

• Is a career civil servant in the Associate Professor position. Meets requirement.
• Has permanent appointment at USAL. Meets requirement.
• Is accredited for Professor. Meets requirement.
• Has been in the position for more than two years (since September 2023). Meets requirement.

This professor must access the USAL electronic headquarters with their digital certificate and submit their application before the 15 business day deadline from July 7, 2026 expires. If the position they are applying for has a different profile from other announced positions, they must submit a specific application for that position.

What should interested parties do now?

1. Verify compliance with the four requirements before starting the application: being an Associate Professor career civil servant, having permanent appointment at USAL, having accreditation for Professor, and proving at least two years of seniority in the position.
2. Calculate the exact expiration deadline: count 15 business days from July 7, 2026, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and official holidays, to avoid missing the call.
3. Prepare the digital certificate with sufficient advance notice. Submission is exclusively electronic on the USAL electronic headquarters; without a valid digital certificate it is not possible to complete the procedure.
4. Identify the announced positions that correspond to your own area of knowledge and prepare an independent application for each position with a different profile.
5. Review the incompatibility situation: if you have complementary private activities, verify that they are compatible with the new position before formalizing the application.
6. Foreign applicants without NIE: register previously in the RUS USAL to be able to access the electronic application process.
