Museum Assistant Examinations 2026: Minimum Score per Item Raised to 2.5 Points

If you are preparing for the examinations for the Corps of Assistants of Archives, Libraries and Museums in the Museums section, there is a change you need to incorporate into your strategy immediately. The Resolution of July 16, 2026 corrects a material error in the original call from December 2025 and modifies the minimum score required for each item cataloged in the first part of the third exercise (free access selection process).

The correction, published in the BOE on July 22, 2026, raises that threshold from 1.5 to 2.5 points per item. It is not a minor change: it redefines the optimal strategy for passing the exercise.

What does this regulation establish?

The original call, published on December 18, 2025, regulated in section 6.3 the grading of the first part of the third exercise for the free access selection process in the Museums section. In that exercise, candidates catalog items using the DOMUS module, and each item is scored out of a maximum of 5 points.

The correction resolution modifies exclusively that section. The before/after comparison is as follows:

The rest of the call — including the Archives and Libraries sections, the internal promotion selection process and the change in legal status of fixed-term staff covered by Annex II of the IV Single Agreement — is not affected by this correction.

Impact on candidate preparation and strategy

The change has direct consequences on how the cataloging exercise with DOMUS should be prepared:

• Higher requirement per individual item: With the previous minimum of 1.5 points, an item could be well below average and still not eliminate the candidate if the overall total exceeded 7.5 points. Now, each item must reach at least 2.5 points independently.
• Less room for compensation: It is no longer possible to "sacrifice" a difficult item to dedicate more time to the others. If an item falls below 2.5, the candidate is eliminated in that part, regardless of how the others go.
• The global threshold does not change: Exceeding 7.5 points out of 15 is still necessary, but now it is a necessary but not sufficient condition: you must also exceed the minimum per item.

Who does it affect?

• Candidates for the Corps of Assistants of Archives, Libraries and Museums who apply for the Museums section.
• Exclusively the free access selection process (not internal promotion).
• Examination preparation academies and tutors working on the third exercise with their students.
• Candidates who already had their cataloging strategy planned with the previous minimum of 1.5 points and need to revise it.

Candidates from the Archives and Libraries sections, as well as those from the internal promotion selection process, are not affected by this correction.

Practical example

Imagine a candidate who in the first part of the third exercise must catalog 3 items with DOMUS (maximum 5 points each, total 15 points; elimination threshold: 7.5 points).

Scenario with the previous minimum (1.5 pts/item):

• Item A: 1.2 points (below the previous minimum of 1.5)
• Item B: 3.5 points
• Item C: 3.5 points
• Total: 8.2 points — exceeds the global threshold of 7.5, but Item A does not reach the minimum of 1.5 → eliminated anyway.

Scenario with the new minimum (2.5 pts/item):

• Item A: 2.4 points (does not reach the new minimum of 2.5)
• Item B: 4.0 points
• Item C: 3.5 points
• Total: 9.9 points — exceeds the global threshold of 7.5, but Item A does not reach the new minimum of 2.5 → eliminated.

The conclusion is clear: with the new minimum of 2.5 points, the margin of error per item is significantly reduced. An item that previously could have been partially "sacrificed" must now be worked on with the same rigor as the others.

What should candidates do now?

1. Review your DOMUS cataloging strategy: If you had planned to "sacrifice" a difficult item, that approach is no longer valid. Each item must individually exceed 2.5 points.
2. Practice with the new threshold as a reference: In exercise simulations, make sure that no item falls below 2.5 points, regardless of the overall result.
3. Inform your tutor or academy: If you work with a tutor, share this correction so they can update the evaluation criteria for simulations.
4. Consult the updated official text: Download and save the correction resolution (BOE-A-2026-15962) along with the original call from December 2025 to have the complete picture of evaluation criteria.
5. Verify that there are no more pending corrections: Given a correction of errors, it is advisable to check if there are other subsequent resolutions that may affect other sections of the call.
