Compound feed manufacturers for turkeys have from August 12, 2026 a new tool available: Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1772 formally authorizes the use of a combined preparation of alpha-galactosidase and endo-1,4-beta-xylanase as an additive in feed for broiler turkeys and turkeys raised for breeding. The Spanish company Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA is the authorization holder and will be able to market this additive in all EU Member States.
This is not a mandatory use requirement, but an authorization: feed manufacturers who decide to incorporate it must comply with the technical conditions, dosage and labeling requirements established by the regulation. Those who do not use it do not need to do anything. Those who want to use it must comply with what the regulation establishes from day one.
What does this regulation establish?
The regulation authorizes a dual-component enzymatic preparation whose function is to improve the digestibility of plant-based feed in turkeys. The enzymes work by degrading indigestible polysaccharides present in plant raw materials (cereals, legumes), which translates into better nutritional utilization of the feed.
| Enzymatic component | Producing organism | Strain code |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha-galactosidase | Aspergillus tubingensis | ATCC SD 6740 |
| Endo-1,4-beta-xylanase | Trichoderma orientale | CBS 139997 |
The authorized target species are exclusively:
- Broiler turkeys
- Turkeys raised for breeding
The regulation sets specific conditions of use, maximum and minimum permitted dosages, and labeling requirements that must be met by both the authorization holder (Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA) and feed manufacturers who incorporate the additive into their formulas. These specific conditions are set out in the annex of the regulation published in the Official Journal of the EU.
Economic and operational impact
For the different actors in the supply chain, the impact is different:
- Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA: Gains access to an EU-wide market to market this additive. It is the main direct beneficiary of the regulation, since without this authorization it could not sell the product in any Member State.
- Feed manufacturers: Can incorporate the additive into their turkey formulations. If they decide to do so, they assume the obligation to comply with the conditions of use, dosage and labeling of the regulation. This may involve adjustments to technical sheets, labels and quality control procedures.
- Poultry farmers (turkey farms): The impact is indirect. If their feed supplier incorporates the additive, they may benefit from improved digestibility and potentially better feed conversion ratios. They have no direct obligations arising from this regulation.
From an operational perspective, the main effort falls on feed manufacturers who choose to use the additive: they will need to review and update labels, product sheets and formulation records to reflect compliance with the conditions established in the regulation.
Who does it affect?
- Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA: Authorization holder. Can market the additive throughout the EU from August 12, 2026.
- Compound feed manufacturers for turkeys: If they incorporate the additive, they must comply with the conditions of use, dosage and labeling of the regulation.
- Feed additive importers and distributors: Must verify that any product based on these enzymes has current authorization before marketing it.
- Poultry farmers with broiler or breeding turkey production: Indirect impact through the feed they purchase. They have no direct obligations.
- Competent authorities of the Member States: Responsible for verifying compliance with the conditions of use and labeling in official feed controls.
Practical example
A compound feed manufacturing company based in Spain that supplies broiler turkey farms decides to incorporate the alpha-galactosidase and endo-1,4-beta-xylanase preparation from Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA into its standard turkey formula.
To do so legally from August 12, 2026, it must:
- Verify that the product it purchases from Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA corresponds exactly to the authorized preparation (strains ATCC SD 6740 and CBS 139997).
- Adjust the dosage to the levels set in the annex of Regulation (EU) 2026/1772.
- Update the label of the compound feed to reflect the presence of the additive with the name, authorization number and mandatory statements required by the regulation.
- Update the product technical sheet and internal formulation records.
If the manufacturer was already using a similar unauthorized enzymatic additive for turkeys, it must replace it or regularize its situation before the entry into force date.
What should companies do now?
- Feed manufacturers who want to use the additive: Review the annex of Regulation (EU) 2026/1772 to learn the exact conditions of use, permitted dosages and labeling requirements before August 12, 2026.
- Update labels and technical sheets: If the additive is incorporated, feed labels must reflect the correct name, authorization number and mandatory statements of the regulation.
- Verify the supply chain: Ensure that the additive purchased comes from Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA or an authorized distributor, and that it corresponds exactly to the authorized strains (ATCC SD 6740 and CBS 139997).
- Distributors and importers: Check that any enzymatic product for turkey feed that they market has current EU authorization.
- Poultry farmers: Have no direct obligations, but can consult their feed supplier to see if this additive will be available in their formulas and what benefits it can provide to their conversion ratios.
Frequently asked questions
When does the authorization of the new enzymatic additive for turkey feed come into force?
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1772 comes into force on August 12, 2026. It was published in the Official Journal of the EU on July 24, 2026. From that date, Industrial Técnica Pecuaria, SA can market the additive throughout the EU and feed manufacturers can legally incorporate it into their turkey formulas.
What enzymes does the authorized additive contain and what strains produce them?
The authorized preparation combines two enzymes: alpha-galactosidase, produced by Aspergillus tubingensis strain ATCC SD 6740, and endo-1,4-beta-xylanase, produced by Trichoderma orientale strain CBS 139997. Both work by degrading indigestible polysaccharides in plant-based feed, improving digestibility in turkeys.
Are feed manufacturers required to use this additive from August 12, 2026?
No. The regulation is an authorization, not a requirement. Feed manufacturers may choose to incorporate it or not. Those who decide to use it must comply with the conditions of use, dosage and labeling set out in the regulation. Those who do not use it have no obligations arising from this regulation.
What labeling obligations does this regulation create for feed manufacturers?
Feed manufacturers who incorporate the additive must reflect on the compound feed label the correct name of the additive, its authorization number and the mandatory statements established in the annex of Regulation (EU) 2026/1772. The exact labeling conditions are set out in that annex, available in the Official Journal of the EU.
For what types of turkeys is this additive authorized?
The authorization covers exclusively two categories: broiler turkeys and turkeys raised for breeding. It is not authorized for other poultry species or other production categories. Any use outside these two categories would not be covered by this regulation.
