Candidates who applied for the selective process for admission to the Research Professor Scale of the Public Research Organizations (OPI), announced by Resolution of 23 December 2025, must now review their status on the provisional list. The Under-Secretariat for Science, Innovation and Universities approved on 28 May 2026 the provisional list of admitted and excluded candidates, published in the BOE on 4 June 2026.
The window for action is narrow: 10 business days from publication. After that deadline, there is no second chance within this process.
What does this regulation establish?
The resolution approves two differentiated measures within the selective process for the Research Professor Scale of the OPI:
1. Provisional list of admitted and excluded candidates
The provisional lists of admitted and excluded persons in the selective process are published. This list has a provisional character, which means that candidates negatively affected can challenge it or correct the defects detected.
- Excluded candidates can correct the defects that led to their exclusion.
- Omitted candidates (not included as either admitted or excluded) can also claim their inclusion.
- The deadline is 10 business days counted from publication in the BOE (4 June 2026).
- Correction is carried out exclusively electronically through the Selective Tests Registration service of the General Access Point.
- Complete lists of admitted candidates will be published on the website of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and on the websites of the recipient organizations.
2. Modification of selection body members (tribunals)
Several members of the selection tribunals are modified, at the proposal of three public research organizations:
| Proposing organization | Type of modification |
|---|---|
| CIEMAT (Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research) | Replacement of certain members in different scientific specialties |
| INTA (National Institute of Aerospace Technology) | Replacement of certain members in different scientific specialties |
| CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) | Replacement of certain members in different scientific specialties |
Available remedies against this resolution
- Motion for reconsideration: deadline of 1 month from publication (until approximately 4 July 2026).
- Administrative contentious appeal: deadline of 2 months from publication (until approximately 4 August 2026).
Economic and operational impact
For candidates, the impact is not direct economic, but rather on professional career. Being excluded from the selective process without correcting within the deadline means losing the opportunity to access a Research Professor position at the OPI, with the salary and job stability implications that this entails in the public research sector.
For the affected organizations (CIEMAT, INTA, CSIC), the modification of tribunal members has operational impact: the new members must take office and be available for the remaining phases of the selective process.
From an administrative perspective, any candidate who does not correct within the 10 business days established permanently loses their position in this process. There is no extension or alternative method once the deadline has closed.
Who does it affect?
- Researchers and scientists who submitted an application to the selective process for admission to the Research Professor Scale of the OPI, announced in December 2025, and who appear as excluded or omitted on the provisional list.
- Admitted candidates who want to verify their status and the data with which they appear on the list.
- Researchers opting for the internal promotion route, since the call includes both open access and internal promotion.
- Selection tribunal members affected by the changes proposed by CIEMAT, INTA and CSIC.
- HR departments of the recipient OPI (CIEMAT, INTA, CSIC and others), which must coordinate the logistics of the selective process with the new members of the selection bodies.
Practical example
Imagine a researcher who submitted her application in January 2026 for the Research Professor Scale at CSIC. When checking the provisional list published on 4 June 2026, she finds that she is listed as excluded due to a defect in the documentation provided (for example, a degree not properly accredited).
She has until the end of the tenth business day counted from 4 June 2026 to access the Selective Tests Registration service of the General Access Point and correct that defect by providing the correct documentation. If she does not do so within that deadline, her exclusion becomes final and she is excluded from the process, with no possibility of ordinary appeal within the selective procedure (although she could file a motion for reconsideration within 1 month or an administrative contentious appeal within 2 months against the final resolution).
If, on the other hand, her name does not appear as either admitted or excluded (case of omission), she can also claim her inclusion through the same electronic channel and within the same 10 business day deadline.
What should candidates do now?
- Check the provisional list immediately: access the website of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities or the website of the OPI you applied to (CSIC, CIEMAT, INTA or others) to verify if you appear as admitted, excluded or omitted.
- If you appear as excluded or omitted, act before the 10 business days expire: the deadline starts on 4 June 2026. Do not wait until the last day.
- Use exclusively the electronic method: access the Selective Tests Registration service of the General Access Point. No other method is accepted (in-person, postal mail, etc.).
- Prepare the correction documentation: identify the reason for exclusion and gather the documents or data needed to correct it before accessing the system.
- If you believe the exclusion is incorrect and cannot correct it: consider filing a motion for reconsideration (1 month deadline) or an administrative contentious appeal (2 month deadline) against the resolution.
- If you are a tribunal member affected by the changes from CIEMAT, INTA or CSIC: confirm with your organization if your appointment has been modified and what your new obligations are in the process.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I check if I am admitted or excluded in the 2026 OPI Research Professor positions?
The complete lists of admitted and excluded candidates are published on the website of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and on the websites of the recipient organizations (CSIC, CIEMAT, INTA, among others). The resolution approving the provisional lists was published in the BOE on 4 June 2026 (reference BOE-A-2026-11963).
How much time do I have to correct my exclusion in the Research Professor positions?
You have 10 business days counted from the publication of the resolution in the BOE, that is, from 4 June 2026. After that deadline, the exclusion is consolidated and you cannot correct it within the ordinary selective procedure.
How is the correction of exclusion done in the OPI positions?
Correction is carried out exclusively electronically through the Selective Tests Registration service of the General Access Point. No other method is accepted (in-person, postal mail or fax). You must have an electronic certificate or Cl@ve to access.
What happens if I do not appear as either admitted or excluded on the provisional list?
If your name has been omitted (does not appear on either list), you can also claim your inclusion. The procedure and deadline are the same: 10 business days from 4 June 2026, exclusively electronically through the General Access Point.
Can I appeal the resolution if I disagree with my exclusion?
Yes. Against this resolution, two options are available: motion for reconsideration within 1 month from publication (until approximately 4 July 2026), or administrative contentious appeal within 2 months from publication (until approximately 4 August 2026).
